Genius

Microdermabrasion is a cosmetic procedure that rejuvenates facial skin. It can effectively reduce acne scars, fine lines, and improve overall skin texture.

Treatment Information

What is Genius?

Genius treatments help provide lasting unparalleled outcomes with Intelligent RF (Radio Frequency) technology, delivering thermal energy through micro-needles into the dermis. The goal is to stimulate collagen production for impressive and long-lasting results. Achieve youthful skin without the surgical downtime. Genius allows for treatment on all skin types and colours, including tanned skin. By delivering customised energy precisely to the dermis, it creates a micro-injury to jump-start your body’s natural healing process for firm and renewed skin.

What results can I expect?

Results may vary, but you should see some changes soon after the procedure. As your body rebuilds collagen, gradual improvements occur over the next 6 months. Dramatic results may require multiple treatments. Typically, 2-3 treatments give optimal results. There is an initial pinkness and swelling which typically subsides after 24-36 hours. It may take up to a week for this to completely resolve.

What are the potential risks / side effects of this procedure?

Just as there are benefits to the procedure proposed this procedure this procedure also involves risks.

Common side effects include

  • Pinpoint bleeding: Temporary.
  • Redness, swelling and mild “sunburn” like effects: May last a few hours to 3-4 days or longer
  • Microdot spots: Or slightly raised bumps, or pigment changes (light or dark spots on the skin). lasting 1-6 months or longer may occur.

Other potential risks include acne or Herpes Simplex (coldsores) outbreak, itching, pain, bruising, or infection.

Speaking to one of the Dermal Clinicians before treatment can also help minimise these risks. They can assess your skin type, discuss your goals, and customise the treatment accordingly.

How do I prepare for the treatment?

Proper preparation for microdermabrasion enhances its effectiveness and minimises potential risks. Here’s what you should do:

  • Schedule a consultation with a skincare specialist to determine if microdermabrasion is suitable for your skin type and concerns.
  • Avoid using exfoliating creams and other harsh skincare products several days before the treatment.
  • Do not wax or use depilatory creams for at least a week before the procedure.
  • Protect your skin from excessive sun exposure before your appointment to prevent sunburn.
  • If you have a history of cold sores, inform your specialist, as microdermabrasion can trigger breakouts in susceptible individuals.

Following these steps will help ensure that your treatment is both safe and effective.

What happens during treatment?

The specialist will begin by cleansing the skin thoroughly. They will then use a handheld device that sprays fine crystals onto the skin or use a diamond-tipped wand to gently exfoliate the surface. The vacuum suction of the device also stimulates circulation and promotes increased blood flow to the area, which aids in the rejuvenation process. Furthermore, since the procedure is fairly painless, it won’t require anaesthesia; a typical session also lasts about 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the area being treated.

What should I do after my treatment?

Proper aftercare is vital for achieving the best results and minimising potential side effects. After your microdermabrasion treatment:

  • Apply a hydrating moisturiser and a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher. Your skin will be more sensitive to the sun after the treatment.
  • Use gentle, non-abrasive skincare products for at least a few days post-treatment.
  • Avoid direct sun exposure for a few days and refrain from using tanning beds.
  • Do not wax or use depilatories for at least a week.
  • Avoid heavy exercise and activities that cause excessive sweating for 24 hours after the treatment to prevent irritation.
  • Drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated.
  • Follow any specific instructions given by your skincare specialist, and schedule follow-up treatments as recommended to maintain optimal skin health.
